Writing Stories for Performance |

Monday 19.00-21.00 with Polly Tuckett of Short Fuse |

5 sessions from 11th January |

The short story form is enjoying revival on the Live Lit circuit. It is a great asset for writers to be able to promote themselves and their fiction at literary events and public readings. But short fiction which reads well on the page doesn’t always translate to the stage. We will consider which aspects work well in a spoken word context. Homework involves writing a story from scratch or adapting an existing story. Writers can expect to hone their critical, written, editorial and performance skills. |

5 sessions from 22nd February |

Recognised worldwide as a pioneering dub poet, Jean will share with group members her considerable skills in creating poetry especially for stage. You will learn the nature of performance poetry, gain an insight into types and styles of performance poems, learn how to note it down, and how to perform it confidently using a microphone. We hope to be able to link an opportunity for performance with the course. |
